The Best of Switchfoot

After a decade of intellect, integrity and songs that lift the soul and open the eyes, Switchfoot have earned the right to wave their accomplishments about a bit. ‘The Best Yet’ does just that –
and more.

With five albums behind them and a stack of accolades and awards, Switchfoot have had plenty of best bits to choose from. What the band have settled on are eighteen songs that highlight perfectly why it is that these five guys from San Diego have moved in and settled down in the hearts and minds of millions of fans across the globe.

‘The Best Yet’ includes their massive hits ‘Meant To Live’ and ‘Dare You To Move’, as well as the radio successes ‘Stars’, ‘Oh! Gravity.’, ‘Awakening’ and ‘This Is Your Life’. Other numbers are the superb ‘The Shadow Proves The Sunshine’, ‘Company Car’ and ‘This Is Home’ – a track featured on the soundtrack to The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. Then there’s the Deluxe edition of the album, a CD/DVD package featuring 14 music videos and band commentray. Includes video favourites like ‘Stars’, ‘Dare You To Move’ and ‘Meant To Live’ along with some rarities spanning Switchfoots career.

Lastly, Jon Foreman (Switchfoots front man) will be performing at The Stand on 8 November along with Delirious?, Tim Hughes, YFriday, bandwithnoname, Bluetree and talks from Steve Chalke, Andy Hawthorn and Baroness Cox. Graham Kendrick Tour

Graham Kendrick has announced plans to tour his latest album in the run up to Christmas this year, bringing fresh insight and opportunities to the season.
As Graham explains, the decision was a logical one to make; 'Every year since I wrote and recorded Rumours of Angels I have looked forward to writing another set of songs for the Christmas season. This year at last I have felt the time is right and been able to make it a priority. It is quite a challenge for a songwriter writing for the Christmas season, because so much has already been done - it is hard to be original! However I was quickly encouraged with a flow of lyrical concepts and musical ideas, and endedup with more songs than I could fit in.’
The 18 date tour will take in churches, cathedrals, theatres and town halls. Expect Graham’s trademark inspiration and intuition as he narrates the story of the nativity through song.

COMPASSIONART

Today I recieved some information regarding the great new cd Compassionart So read the information below and get excited about this great bran new cd

Prepare For Something Marvelous…

It seemed like a crazy idea at the time – gathering twelve of the most respected Christian songwriters for a week-long retreat in rural Scotland. They’d pay their own way, write together and give up all claim to any royalties earned from the songs. Crazy. Then it got a little more crazy; within a few weeks of the retreat the writers were back together once more at London’s Abbey Road studios to record 14 songs in just three days, emerging with the spine and heart of an album.

And then things got interesting; would the publishers, labels managers and countless other industry personnel join in? Would the Christian scene unite to do something they’d never attempted before? Would they forgo income so that money could be raised to help fight poverty around the world?

The answer was a ‘yes’. A very loud one. And now, a few months later CompassionArt the album is set for release on the 24th November. Featuring 14 songs that stretch and inspire, joining the dots between faith, music and action, CompassionArt brings the heart of worship a little closer to meeting the needs of a world in pain. All proceeds generated from the CD, book and song royalties will support the work of 16 initial projects over the lifetime of these songs.
The four headline projects are Stop The Traffik, Watoto, Ray Of Hope and Hand Of Hope. The brainchild of Martin and Anna Smith, the songwriters including Paul Baloche, Steven Curtis-Chapman, Stuart Garrard, Israel Houghton, Tim Hughes, Graham Kendrick, Andy Park, Matt Redman, Michael W. Smith, Chris Tomlin, Darlene Zschech and several other additional guest performers: Kirk Franklin, Amy Grant, Joel Houston, Christy Nockels, Leeland Mooring, tobyMac and CeCe Winans.

Also included with the CD is a packed DVD – including a 50 minute documentary, trailers, videos and PDF downloads of song and chord charts for all of the tracks. As well as all of this, the writers united to produce a book - The Art of Compassion (to be published by Hodder in November 2008); a twelve chapter unraveling of the trail of worship, hope and justice found in each of the writers’ lives. Back to the album though; what does it all sound like? Hope, justice, peace, enlightenment and truth. Grooves and tunes and melodies that work under the skin and into the heart. Put it another way; these songs sound like the future.
